May 10, 2008.  The Grand Rapids Model Railroad Historical Society hosts an openhouse from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Admission is free but donations are welcomed.  Located at 4040 Leland Avenue NW (Dwight Lydell Park) in Comstock Park, MI.  Large HO scale operating layout of the Pere Marquette Railroad in 1945.  Fun for the whole family.  For further information, go to www.grmrhs.org.

 

May 16-18, 2008.  Railroad Days 2008 at Durand Union Station.  Tour their century old Victorian station.  See the 5632 on display in Iron Horse Park along with a baggage car, caboose and gateman's tower.  Parade at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.  Carnival and an arts and crafts show at the depot on Saturday and Sunday.  Food, music and fun.  Come celebrate our railroading history.  www.durrandstation.org.

 

May 17-18, 2008.  Steam Railroading Institute presents the Spring Northerner pulled by Pere Marquette 1225.  A round trip excursion from Owosso to Clare and return.  Departs Owosso at 9:00 a.m. each day, arriving at Mt. Pleasant around noon.  After a short layover the train will proceed to Clare.  Train will arrive back in Owosso by 8:00 p.m.  For further information go to the SRI website at www.michigansteamtrain.com.

 

June 1 - September 28, 2008.  The Michigan Transit Museum operates on Sundays from June 1st to September 28, 2008.  Trains leave the caboose ticket office at Joy Park in Mt. Clemens off of Joy Road, East of Gratiot on the hour from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  (The 4th trip does not drop passengers off at the Air Museum).  For additional information, go to their website at www.michigantransitmuseum.org.
