November 21, 2009. 150th anniversary of the opening of the Mount Clemens Grand Trunk Railway station. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. at 200 Grand Avenue, Mount Clemens and remain open until 9:00 p.m. Cake, cookies and punch will be served. The City will present a proclamation to honor this event. There will be an "appearance" by young Thomas Alva Edison for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Slides and/or videos about the station, the trains that pass by the station and more stories about Mr. Edison will be presented throughout the day.
November 22, 2009. Lansing Model Railroad Club Train Show and Sale. Michigan State University Pavilion in East Lansing. 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. One of Michigan's largest train show with over 400 tables of models, toys, railroadiana, art, books, DVD's, and much more. See trains running over 10 different modular layouts including HO, N, G, Z, HO European, and a circus scene. Also, experts from the local National Model Railroad Association Division 5 will do demonstrations on scenery, DCC, and other model railroad related subjects. It's a train load of fun for everyone! Admission $6.00 adults and free for children under 12 year and scouts in uniform. Table rental is $20 or $25 after November 1, 2009. November 27-29, 2009. The Steam Railroading Institute is sponsoring their North Pole Express, behind 2-8-4 Pere Marquette 1225. The train will run in Owosso to the "North Pole" (Saginaw county Fairgrounds in Chesaning). Ticks are $70 for adults, $40 for children, which includes the train ride, hot cocoa served on board, souvenir ticket and booklet. It also includes admission to the "North Pole," and admission to all amusement rides there. Patrons can also purchase the "Caboose Option," which allows up to 12 people to ride the North Pole Express in their own private caboose. December 2, 2009. The Canadian Pacific 2009 Holiday Train comes to Windsor, Ontario. It is scheduled to leave Chatham, Ontario for Windsor in the afternoon and is on display in Windsor's CP Yard from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Note: The train's next scheduled appearance is on Gurnee, Illinois on Saturday, December 5th, so it will likely be travelling through the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel and through southeast Michigan between Wednesday evening and Friday. Likely route would be through the tunnel, south to Delray, west on the NS via Melvindale, Belleville, Milan, Adrian and into Indiana/Illinois. If the train is lit up during transit, it will be fun to watch.
