Amtrak 2001 Strategic Plan Announced

Amtrak has released their Strategic Plan for 2001 which is on their web site in PDF form.  The following information was gleaned from this report from posts on RRMichigan group page:

Among the "Growth Service" changes contemplated is a Kalamazoo-Holland corridor.  I have heard rumors of this before, and indicates a reroute of the Pere Marquettes from Grand Rapids-Holland-Porter-Chicago to Holland-Grand Rapids-Kalamazoo-Chicago.  It will require big-time track improvements (and maybe signals, too) on the Grand Rapids-Kalamazoo leg and a major rebuilding of the junction in Kalamazoo.

The Midwest Regional Rail Initiative describes the following routes: Chicago-Detroit and Kalamazoo-Holland/Lansing-Port Huron, with no mention of Pontiac, Detroit-Toledo or that phantom sleeper train through southern Ontario.  It certainly looks like the International will stay on its current route but the Pere Marquettes will be rerouted.
