New CP/CSX Connection?

Talk on the internet list-serv suggests that CSX and CP Rail are building a connection from the WB Conrail Shared Assets Main #1 track at Miller Road to the WB CSX Detroit to Grand Rapids main line.  As of this writing, switches have been installed on the CR-SAA track.  It is anticipated that the former grade of the Detroit Terminal Railroad interchange with the Michigan Central will be utilized to a connection with the CSX just north of Michigan Avenue.  This would reuse the long abandoned DTRR overpass over Michigan Avenue.

The new interchange track would be used by CP run through trains.  These trains now come out of the Detroit-Windsor rail tunnel and turn south at West Detroit.  From there, they now wind through Delray, Rougemere Yard and then WB on the CSX towards Plymouth.

Under the new arrangement, the CP trains would bypass Delray and Rougemere by staying on the WB CR-SAA main line at West Detroit and proceeding directly to the new connection.  The word on the street also says that CP owns the WB Conrail-SAA main line from West Detroit to Town Line - and has since the early 1990's!
