Amtrak is our country's national rail passenger provider.  In Michigan, Amtrak operates three passenger train routes:
  • Pontiac to Chicago, via Detroit (3 round trip trains)
  • Port Huron to Chicago (1 round trip daily)
  • Grand Rapids to Chicago (1 round trip daily)

Amtrak owns one section of track between Kalamazoo and Porter, Indiana where their line rejoins Norfolk Southern.  This section is currently being upgraded with a goal of 150 MPH trains in the next 10 years or so.

The remainder of Amtrak's routes are via trackage rights on the NS, CSX or CN.
