|
| Until the purchase of part of Conrail in 1999,
Norfolk Southern operations in Michigan were limited to a line
from Detroit to Montpelier, Ohio (through Lenawee County) which
primarily carried auto related traffic to St. Louis and the
west. The carve up of Conrail gave NS an additional main
line from Detroit to Elkhart, Indiana (via Kalamazoo) and branch
lines to Grand Rapids and Lansing. NS also received a
major, double track line from Detroit to Toledo.
To see information about each of these lines,
click on the route on the map at the right (under
construction). Other information about the NS system is
available by pressing buttons on the left. |
