The photo at the left is of the Pere Marquette coaling dock at New Buffalo, Michigan.  The coal dock still exists as of 2002 and straddles the CSX main line.  Charlie Whipp contributed this photo of the massive concrete dock with the CP going underneath.

The coal dock was built in 1942 and only used for about 14 years.  It held 250 tons of coal which were delivered to locomotives below via 2 chutes.  Coal was raised to the holding area by an electric elevator.
