  • Organized in Ishpeming in 1852, owned by the Iron Cliffs Company.  Owned 2,200 acres.  The principal mine was located between the New York and Lake Superior mines, also notes as just north of M-28 (Division Street) east of Seventh Street.  Iron ore shipped out in 1855 to furnaces "down the lakes".  This was the first Ishpeming mine.   • Reached by the Iron Mountain Railroad in 1855.  [EHMT]

  • This mine developed two other mines, the Cleveland Lake and the Cleveland Hematite.  [EHMT]

  • In 1880 a new engine house was begun, 80' x 44' with a steel cable wound on 6-foot drum hoists.  The Cleveland Cliffs offices moved from the Cleveland Mine area on Division Street to the Cliffs Shafts area n Lake Bancroft in 1899.  [EHMT]
