In operation in
1869, the Detroit Mine was located in the general area of the
present US-41 in the area of the Ishpeming-Negaunee city limits.
In 1882, it opened as the Norwich, but operated by the Detroit Iron
Mining Company through 1890. It was flooded and closed around
