Located close to what is
now the Wawonowin Golf Course, in a westerly direction in the
Greenwood Location area. The furnace was built by the
Marquette and Ontonagon Railroad in 1865. It received ore from
the Lake Superior and Washington mines. The Michigan Iron
Company files for bankruptcy and all machinery was removed by 1880.
The furnace stack lasted until 1950 when it was torn down.
