In the 1960's, ore from the Tracy Mine is described as "soft, sticky ore". It is rather difficult to get out of the ore cars on the Soo Line (former DSS&A) ore dock at Marquette. Once in the dock pocket, the ore is again reluctant to flow freely into the boats. To aid this problem, a car of pellets is placed into the pocket first. Then, the Tracy ore is dumped on top of it. When the chute is lowered into a boat, the pellets flow freely and there is no base for the Tracy ore to rest on, so it quickly falls out too. [LSIOR]
