The Flying Scotsman in Lansing, Michigan - 1970

In September, 1970, the "Flying Scotsman" toured the United States.  The train was from England, and made its final run in Great Britain in 1963 according to an article by David P. Morgan in Trains Magazine in January, 1972.  The article further explained that Alan

Peagler bought the engine and ran excursions in Great Britain. In September, 1969 he brought the train set over to the the States to do excursions. The engine was built in 1923, had 80 inch drivers, and the tender held 10 tons.  The photo here was taken by Merritt Scharnweber on the Grand Trunk Western Railroad at the Washington Street crossing next to the Lansing depot.  [Merritt Scharnweber photo].
