GTW F-units head up westbound freight train at Lansing

This westbound Grand Trunk Western freight train passes the depot in Lansing.  The train is pulled by a set of GTW F-units in the original green and gold scheme.  This paint scheme didn't last very long as the railroad switched to a yellow soon after these F-units were delivered.  When this photograph was taken

in 1949, the F units were new.  If you look carefully, you can see the Cedar Street interlocking about 1/4 mile east of the station (which controlled the crossing of the NYC), as well as the REO plant in the background.  Both are now long gone, of course.  May, 1949.   [Elmer Treloar photograph, Charlie Whipp Collection]
