A Norfolk &
Western high-nosed GP-30 547 works as the Milan local switcher in
1983. Milan was (and is) the crossing of the Wabash main line
from Detroit to Fort Wayne, Indiana, and the Ann Arbor Railroad from
Toledo to Frankfort, Michigan. In the background of this photo,
you can see the interlocking tower, the depot to the left of the
tower, and the grain elevator. The depot and elevator continue
to exist, but the tower has been removed. The local is moving
hi-cube box cars for the Ford Plant (now Visteon) on the east side of
town. [Charlie Whipp photograph].
