NYC BD-2 approaches at meet at the Oxford siding.

A photograph taken by E. L. Novak at the end of automatic signal protection on the NYC Bay City Branch, north of Oxford.  These signals were located 7,000 feet north of Oxford at the start of manual block system for northward trains, and automatic block system for southward trains.  This was also the end of the Oxford passing track.  The ABS system was helpful in protecting local switching from

gravel pits and other industries in the area.  BD-2 had its light extinguished due to a northward extra in the siding that Ernie was on.  The road at the left of the photograph is M-24 (or Lapeer Road).  September 20, 1961.  [Charlie Whipp Collection]
