As a
result of the failed Penn Central merger, Conrail was formed
from a number of eastern railroads, and their power often made
it to Michigan. In the photo above, a former Central Railroad
of New Jersey SD-40-2 No. 6051, leads eastbound hot shot train
NY-4 on the Air Line branch of Conrail at C.P. 2, which was near
Spring Arbor. The Air Line branch was operated by centralized
traffic control (CTC) from Jackson to Elkhart, Indiana.
