Conrail 6599 passes MA Tower in Lansing

Above, Conrail 6599 heads south towards Jackson with a daily mixed freight train LATO.  LATO's ultimate destination is Toledo, Ohio.  It is passing "MA' Tower, which was at Michigan Avenue in downtown Lansing.  MA protected the junction of the former Michigan Central (Conrail in this photo) and the former Pere Marquette (CSX) as they entered Lansing.  Lansing Union Station was just north of MA and the track was a double main line for about one mile to "North Lansing" interlocking, where the MC branched off towards Saginaw.  March, 1985  [Photo by Jim Slater].
