Union Station
in South Lyon, at the crossing of the Pere Marquette main line to
Grand Rapids and the GTW's Jackson Branch. A PM steam
locomotive and train sits on the passing track, beyond Pontiac
Trail. The crossing was interlocked, as was the switch nearby.
The west end of the siding was a spring switch. The GTW had
trackage rights on the PM to reach the freight house and team track
at the left side of the photo. This photograph may have been
taken from the cab of a westbound F-unit, as it appears that a
sliver of the headlight shows at the bottom right of the photo.
The depot, which is one of 3-4 "witch's hat" designs on the GTW has
been moved to South Lyon's McHattie Park and restored.
