Central train BD-2 is pointed southbound on the Bay City Branch
near Oxford. The train is sitting on the main north of the
PO&N diamond while the crew went for beans. It was the
practice of engineers to cut away from the train and tie it
down. The M-24 plant of American Aggregates is visible in
the background. This section of track had insulating
joints protecting the interlocking plant, which was automatic by
the time this photo was taken. Oxford Tower closed in 1961
when the plant was automated. Engine 1692 is an ex-NYC
F-7. Traffic in 1972, the year this photograph was taken,
was down to a through train each way in each direction, along
with a local. [Charlie Whipp]
