New York
Central (Big Four) 1707, heads south on the Jackson branch near Willbee Concrete. 1707 is a H-6a
Light Mikado Class locomotive. The NYC
was made up of several "name" railroads which were collected by the
Vanderbilt's NYC. The "Big Four", formally known as the
Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis entered Michigan in two
routes. This line, north to Jackson, was the former Cincinnati
Northern. The Big Four also had a line from Elkhart north
through Niles to Benton Harbor. This photo is from the 1940's. [Doug
