N&W 1627 proceeds south past Milan Tower

High-nosed Norfolk & Western 1627 leads a westbound train past the Milan depot.  Milan is the interlocked crossing of the N&W former Wabash line from Detroit to Montpellier, Ohio, and the Ann Arbor Railroad main line between Toledo and Ann Arbor.  Milan tower is the former Britton interlocking tower which was moved to the Village of Milan in the 1930's after the NYC's DT&M branch line through Britton was removed.  Milan Tower was removed on August 11, 1991 and was removed shortly thereafter.  The interlocking is now controlled by the NS dispatcher in Fort Wayne.  October, 1984  [Jim Slater photo]
