Conrail 5641,
operating as the Vermontville Turn, slowly travels over the trestle
on the CK&S branch in Hastings. The Turn operated on the
former Michigan Central Grand Rapids Branch (Jackson-Grand Rapids)
out of Grand Rapids and turned at Vermontville, which is where the
line ended after 1976. The CK&S branch, which crossed the
Grand Rapids Branch at Hastings, was pulled up in 1937, but a stub
of it remained to serve local industry. The remainder of the
Grand Rapids branch was removed in 1983. This photo was taken
in 1976.
