power New York Central train DC-1 westbound on the Air Line Branch
at West Street, in Jackson, Michigan. April, 1963. For
many years, the Air Line near Jackson was double tracked, with the
second track being the former Fort Wayne, Jackson & Saginaw line
which ran parallel to the Air Line as far as Haires Junction.
The remnants of this second line appear to be at the left. The
plan for the Air Line itself was to be another opportunity for the
Grand Trunk to reach Chicago, but was thwarted by Vanderbilt
interests when they bought the section west of Jackson. [Rahn
