Railroad History of Michigan

Welcome to RRHX, Michigan's Internet Railroad History Museum.....sponsored by MichiganRailroads.comSelect Your Gallery...

A photograph of the original roundhouse at Jackson Jct., in 1915, taken from atop the nearby coaling tower.  The Michigan Central built its large yard and service facilities at Jackson Jct. around 1871, moving its locomotive facilities here from Marshall.  Two roundhouses were ultimately built here and this one is the first.  It was likely built when the facility was built.  Note the spare locomotive cabs in the foreground of the photo, as well as the water tower on the left.  This water tower fed standpipes around the facility and was used for providing treated water for locomotives and their tenders.  [Charles Milliken photo, Doug Leffler collection]
