Carleton

2 miles W of I-275 on Carleton-Rockwood Road.

Abandoned Carleton interlocking tower, which controlled the Pere Marquette, DT&I and the Pennsylvania line to the northeast.

Vision... watching a Pennsy passenger train with its maroon cars head northeast onto their own line, built in the early 1920's.

Diann

W off Gloff Road, 1 1/2 mile N of Dunbar Road, southeast of Dundee.

Abandoned Diann interlocking Tower, which controlled the crossing of the Ann Arbor and the DT&I.  A fairly modern tower built in the early 1930's.

Vision... seeing Henry Ford himself at the throttle of a southbound freight on the DT&I.ir own line, built in the early 1920's.

Milan

W off Gloff Road, 1 1/2 mile N of Dunbar Road, southeast of Dundee.

The Milan passenger/freight station, which appears to have been built in the 1940's, replacing an older station.  Still in use by MOW crews.

Vision... waiting for your Wabash train and delighting in the arrival of an Ann Arbor passenger train instead.

Monroe

East 3rd Street, 13 blocks south of Monroe St., in Monroe

The old Detroit & Toledo Shore Line depot, along one of the four north/south rail lines which come through Monroe.

Vision... talking with the freight agent about his job.  (The D&TSL did not run regular passenger trains).

Monroe along river

Along East Front Street and the river, east and west of I-75 in Monroe.

Scouting out the ruins of the old branch line from downtown to the Lake.  This is one of Michigan's oldest rail right of ways and much of the track still exists.

Vision... one of America's first wood-fired locomotives bringing goods from the piers to downtown Monroe, in 1838.

Ottawa Yard

Dean Road, just east of Telegraph (US-24).

The ruins of Pere Marquette's Ottawa Yard, its primary Toledo terminal and interchange point.

Vision... hundreds of cars, locomotives, and yard equipment in an area which is now a field.  This was quite a place.

Petersburg trestle

Deerfield Road, on the west side of the City.

Ruins of a trestle of the NYC Monroe Branch over the Raisin River.

Vision... kids fishing on the bridge, listening for the sound of oncoming locomotives.
