Alba Interlocking Tower

Above, the GR&I depot at Alba, Michigan.  Below, two views of the depot and interlocking tower (one summer, one winter).  The interlocking tower protected the crossing of the Detroit & Charlevoix Railroad.  [Top photo, Alan Loftis Collection]

Alba, Michigan in Antrim County began as a flag station on the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad in 1876.  The Village was platted in 1878.  When the Detroit & Charlevoix Railroad entered town around 1901, it crossed the GR&I and a tower was constructed with an interlocking machine to control the crossing.  Click here to see the tower.

Crossing is directly across from the Mobil station on US-131.  [CB/MIRX8]
