An 1868 panoramic, overhead
view of St. Johns. Note the two railroad trains leaving town in
both directions, in the lower corners of the view. There is also
an interesting "cut" for the tracks in the lower left which allows a
bridge to go over the tracks - probably one of the first overhead
bridges to cross tracks in out-state Michigan. The railroad was
the Detroit, Grand Haven & Milwaukee, which came to town around 1857,
11 years earlier. |
