These are two photos of an unusual outdoor interlocking.  Most interlockings were located in towers, usually 2-stories tall.  This interlocking machine was out in the open, and operated by train crews.  It was located at the crossing of the Essex Terminal's line into Windsor, and the interchange lead between the MC and the CP's Windsor Yard.  [Robert Smith photos, 1970's]

The interlocking above was just to the right and around the bend from the Essex Terminal's bridge over the Michigan Central main line (photo below).  The MC entered the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel just beyond the bridge.  [Robert Smith photo, 1970's].
