A topographic view of Walton Jct., where the GR&I branch to Traverse City branches off their main line.  The Manistee and Northeastern also crossed the GR&I here - using an underpass (see dashed route at the base of the wye switch.)  [USGS map]

A 1914 photograph of several trains at Walton, Michigan.  Walton was the junction of the Grand Rapids & Indiana's Mackinaw Branch, and their Traverse City Branch.  The building at the left is a hotel.  A water tower is behind the outbound train at the right.  [Mark Worrall Collection]  Below, the north wye connection at Walton Jct.  The line on the left goes northwest to Traverse City.  2006  [Dale Berry]

Above, looking south, this is the main line, siding and wye connection to the Traverse City branch.  2006  [Dale Berry].  Below, a photograph of what was the former underpass of the Manistee & Northeastern branch to Grayling, which crossed under the GR&I just south of the south wye switch (see map above).  2006  [Dale Berry]

Comments from Graydon Meints:  The M&NE had an underpass under the GR&I at Walton Jct.  The M&NE was on an almost due-east-west axis at this point.  The bridge was just south of the south GR&I switch.
