Britton, Michigan is a small village in the northeast corner of Lenawee County which was created in 1881 when the Detroit, State Line and Wabash came through the area.  The Detroit, Toledo & Milwaukee Railroad came

through sometime around 1891 (under a former name) and this interlocker was installed around 1900.  This DT&M was not well used, and was eventually placed into the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern.  The Detroit, Toledo and Ironton (DTI) was given trackage rights on this line between Dundee and Tecumseh.

After the DTI created their own route from the Dundee area, the line was seldom used and pulled up in the late 1920's.  The tower was moved up the line to Milan, where is was used until the early 1990's.
