Diann Interlocking as it looked in July, 1987.  This interlocking controlled the crossing of the Ann Arbor Railroad and the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton.  It was built in the 1920's during Henry Ford's ownership of the DT&I.  It was one of the last interlocking towers built in Michigan.  [Charlie Whipp collection.]

Diann was staffed by DT&I operators.  The telegraph symbol for Diann was "XN".  Telegraph symbols were used to abbreviate the name of a station during telegraph messages to reduce transmission time.  [CW]
