  • [COHS-7/1994] reports 1 pole-mounted target signal which was located at South Horn and Western Avenues, the crossing of the C&O and the PRR.  This was the crossing of the C&O Muskegon Subdivision and the PRR dock tracks (3 tracks).  C&O passed when the target was verticle.
  • [COHS-7/1994] reports gates in use at the following Muskegon-area rail grade crossings:
    • McCraken Ave. and Lake Shore Drive - C&O and GTW (MR&N).  Normal for GTW movements in 1984.
    • Muskegon (Track B-18) crossing of the Muskegon Subdivision and the PRR Dock Tracks (2 tracks).  gate set against PRR.
    • C&O Muskegon freight main at Laketon Avenue crossing the GTW.  Gate left in position last used.  C&O freight main abandoned in 1992.
    • Muskegon Heights, Manahan Street crossing of the C&O Belt Line and the C&O.  Crossing replaced by connecting switch in 1993.
    • Muskegon Heights, Park St. crossing of the C&O and teh PRR.  Two gates at this crossing, which closely resembled PRR gate at Traverse City.  Now operated by Michigan Shore Railroad.
    • Muskegon, Henry Street, crossing of the C&O and the PRR.  PRR line abandoned after 1984.
    • Muskegon (9th Street and Western Avenue), C&O Muskegon Subdivision crossing of the GTW Dock Track.  Semaphore signal and gate.  When the semaphore arm was in vertical position and showing green lights and gate set against GTW trains will permit C&O trains to cross.  In 1993, GTW line was abandoned and C&O line relocated.
    • Muskegon (South Horn and Western Avenue) crossing of C&O Muskegon Subdivision (South Horn) and the GTW Dock Track.  GTW track was abandoned but the gate stood unused for years.  Everything gone by 1993.
