This is a
photograph of the Comins depot, probably taken from the top of a water
tower. The road which crosses the track is today the M-33 state
highway. Comins was the "end of the line" for passenger trains
on the AuSable & Northwestern, as well as the Detroit & Mackinac which
purchased the AS&NW in the early 1900's. During logging
operations, freight trains continued northwest to a point near
Lewiston, but passenger trains stopped here and turned around back
towards Oscoda. |

This caboose was
relocated to the Village of Comins in the 1980's. It was later
painted Detroit & Mackinac Railway, but it may not have been a D&M
caboose. The cleared area in front of the caboose is the
location of the former depot, now torn down. [Dave Fulkerth
