Above and below, the aftermath of the 1907 Metz forest fire.  The photo above shows the intense heat generated by the forest's flames buckling the rails.  Below, a photo of the funeral of some of the victims.  The D&M Railway is said to have assisted in rushing supplies to the victims, and helping rebuild the town.  [Jan Sytek Collection]
