An early view of the Detroit & Mackinac depot at Millersburg.  Note the freight cart on the side of the depot, and the stairs leading up to the freight door.  The raised platform in front of the freight door allowed unloading carload freight directly from a box car or express car.  The ladder was used by the operator/station agent to add oil to the train order signal which protruded from the roof on a pole.  The signal was likely controlled by the pipe through the roof.  Ladders were common in photos of early depots.  [Alan Loftis collection]

Above, two workers load lumber into a wooden gondola in this winter scene.  Note the Millersburg depot in the distant right of the photo.  This photo appears to be taken on the "team" track in that village about 1920.

Above and below, 2004 photographs of the former Detroit & Mackinac depot at Millersburg, in Presque Isle County.  [T. J. Gaffney]
