Above, Union Station in Durand.  January, 2002.  [Charlie Whipp]  Below, a view in earlier times with seven trains in attendance.  Taken about 1918.

Penn Central 6216 leads a northbound coal train on the former Ann Arbor Railroad line, crossing the Holly subdivision just south of the Durand Depot.  This location was called "Emergency" in the Ann Arbor Railroad timetable.  April, 1972  [Charlie Whipp]

From Charlie Whipp:  The GT used to have a track that was located east of the bridge over Pine Creek (east of Saginaw St.) that was called the circus track. The circus trains were parked there next to the river which provided plenty of fresh water for the animals, and the field next to the tracks (mini mall and Edison substation there now) provided a good place to unload the animals.  In 1903, the Great Wallace Brothers Circus Train met disaster in Durand.  Click here for additional information.
