Above, Penn Central 6216
leads a northbound coal train on the former Ann Arbor Railroad line,
crossing the GTW Holly subdivision just south of the Durand Depot.
This location was called "Emergency" in the AARR timetables. For a
time, Penn Central and Conrail operated Bay City-bound coal trains
over the former Ann Arbor because the line from Detroit to Bay City was
in poor condition causing derailments. Penn Central has little
money to put into improving their branch lines. April, 1972
