The Michigan
Central Railroad depot in Chelsea, Michigan. This depot was
built in 1880 by the railroad and was used by a station agent up until
the late 1960's. The above photograph was taken in June, 1975.

The article at
the left is from the Ann Arbor Daily Times in 1904. It is a story
about the road crossing flagman on Main Street (now M-52) in
Chelsea. He was warning a woman who was crossing the tracks
and was hit by a train himself.
It should be noted that a
flagman's job in 1904 was not to protect trains from automobiles,
which were not yet common. Rather, the flagman's job was to
stop horse drawn carriages and teamsters. [Article submitted
