The Michigan Central Railroad depot in Chelsea, Michigan.  This depot was built in 1880 by the railroad and was used by a station agent up until the late 1960's.  The above photograph was taken in June, 1975.  [Charlie Whipp].

The article at the left is from the Ann Arbor Daily Times in 1904.  It is a story about the road crossing flagman on Main Street (now M-52) in Chelsea.  He was warning a woman who was crossing the tracks and was hit by a train himself. 

It should be noted that a flagman's job in 1904 was not to protect trains from automobiles, which were not yet common.  Rather, the flagman's job was to stop horse drawn carriages and teamsters.  [Article submitted by Mary Beth Meijer].
