This is the crossing of
the former Michigan Central Detroit, Delray & Dearborn branch and
the Pennsylvania Railroad's Foreman Wye. This crossing, which
still exists (in 2004) is located about 1/4 mile west of Delray
Tower. The MC's DD&D branch originally went west from the Pere
Marquette main line, just west of Delray Tower. It ran west
across the Rouge River, and then northwest to Dearborn. When
Henry Ford bought the Rouge property and widened the Rouge River,
the DD&D was truncated on the east side of the river. The
portion west of the river connected with what is now the Junction
Yard branch at Victoria Avenue and YD. This branch on the east
side of the Rouge River is mostly abandoned. It served one or
two industries along the river. The PRR's Foreman Wye
connected the PRR (which had trackage rights on the Wabash) with
PM's Rougemere Yard, the Rouge Plant, and the Union Belt in
northwest Detroit. The Foreman Wye still exists today.
This crossing was protected by a manual target in 1957. |
