Delray 1947 Diagram

(Above)  This is the track diagram at Delray in 1945 when the wooden tower was replaced with a modern structure.  (Below) is the track diagram today (2002).  The Wabash line and NYC line south of the Union Belt has been pulled up.  These tracks were likely the old routes for these lines over the Rouge River which were replaced when new bridges were built over the widened Rouge River when the Ford plant was built around 1920.  Line lines continued to serve NYC and Wabash industries north of the river until they were removed - perhaps in the 1950's.  It is likely that the NYC line was the former Lake Shore main line to Toledo.  Drawings by Dale Berry.  Information on the track diagrams provided by Nathan Neitering.

The photo below is of the track diagram at Delray interlocking tower in 2002.  Note the routes, switches, signals and derails that have been removed and covered up with black electrical tape.  Delray has a 55-lever Union Switch and Signal Co. S-type interlocking machine with "armstrong" levers.  The last three levers have been replaced with electronic levers.  The model board is still lettered for the Pere Marquette, Wabash and New York Central.  The last interlocking "pipe" was removed in 1992.  Photo and information by Nathan Nietering.
