Detroit Terminal

North Yard was one of the major yard on the Michigan Central Railroad in the Detroit Terminal.  North Yard contained a number of smaller yards, including a classification yard, hump, and receiving yard.  It originally served trains heading north to Bay City as well as industry in the area of northern Detroit, Highland Park and Hamtrack.  Later, it supported new automobile plants north of Detroit in Warren and Sterling Heights.  The original date of construction is not known, but the yard continues to serve as a major facility to both NS and CSX today (2004).
