June 13: Watco Companies,
Inc. and the Norfolk Southern Railroad announced the creation of
the Michigan Central Railway, LLC, to take over operation of
former NS/CR/PC/NYC/MC lines between Ypsilanti and Kalamazoo,
Grand Rapids and Elkhart, and Jackson and Lansing. The
plan was subsequently rejected by the Surface Transportation
Board.

branch line from Gaylord to A&L Iron, a scrap processing plant.
