Port of Grosse Isle

The Port of Grosse Isle hosted a railroad car ferry operation across the Detroit River, connecting Amherstberg, Ontario with Stony Island. This was a significant crossing of the Michigan Central and Canada Southern railroads between the two countries and continued until the Detroit-Windsor railroad tunnel was opened around 1908. The railroad had a fixed Howe truss bridge between Stony Island and Grosse Isle, and another swing bridge connecting the west shore of Grosse Isle and Slocum Junction near Trenton.
