Port of Northport

The Port of Northport was located on Grand Traverse Bay (Lake Michigan) near the northern tip of Leleenau County. For a time, a railroad car ferry operation was located here to take railroad freight cars north to Manistique in the upper peninsula. This operation was moved shortly after it was established to Elberta, likely because the port froze over rapidly in the winter.
