Notes

The Norrie Mine, including the North Norrie Mine, was located southeast of downtown Ironwood. It was also known as the "big" Norrie Mine. The mine was owned and operated by the Oliver Mining Company.


Time Line

1891. Noted as the most productive Bessemer iron ore mine in Michigan, shipping over 1 million tons of ore the previous year. [DFP-1891-0202]

1912. May 13. Norrie Mine, Ironwood, Gogebic County. - Mine cave-in - 7 fatalities.
