This was a lumber tram way which ran from Harrisville on Lake Huron northwest into the pine forests.
1876. July 27. Harrisville. A railroad disaster occurred on Alger & Co.'s log tramway or railroad. Their log train, consisting of eight cars, drawn by horses, loaded with long pine timber, met with an accident at 4:30 pm. On leaving the skidway one of the skids struck one of the sticks of timber, which broke one of the brakes. After going about 50 rods the cars came to a steep grade; the brakeman applied the brake, but as the timbers were "peeled" they commenced slipping off, and in so doing demolished the other brakes. One stick slipped forward and knocked one of the horses down. The cars run upon him, shoving him about 50 feet and him, whereat the stick stuck in the ground, stopping the train.
