H. Mark Hildebrandt Memorial Service
Saturday, April 20, 2024, 01:00pm - 02:00pm
On February 12 of this year, Ann Arbor Train and Troll(e)y Watchers co-founder H. Mark Hildebrandt passed away at the age of 97. In the late 1960s, he and fellow railfans met in the Michigan Central Station in Ann Arbor to enjoy each other’s railroad slides and motion pictures.
When the station was sold by the Penn Central Railroad in 1969 to become the Gandy Dancer Restaurant, the group started meeting at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church where Mark and Sam Breck were members of the congregation. The organization continued to meet there until COVID interrupted gatherings. It now uses the Traver Lakes Clubhouse.

Mark will always be remembered for his many showings of 16 mm films that he made, including such historical subjects as ancient Detroit River railroad car ferries and a trip from Detroit to Ann Arbor on a Budd Rail Diesel Car.

He last attended an AATTW meeting about a year ago where he displayed and sold copies of the book that he co-authored titled Electric Trolleys of Washtenaw County.

The retired pediatrician is survived by his six children. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 1:00 PM at St. Andrew’s Church, 306 North Division Street, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Location St. Andrew’s Church, 306 North Division Street, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
