Built: 1931, by Manitowoc Shipbuilding Co., Manitowoc, WI

End of Service: 1978 (GTW). Then sold to State of Michigan deployed on Ann Arbor rail car ferry service until 1981.
Disposition: Became a bed and breakfast and event venue in Manistee Lake, Manistee, MI

Carried 28-30 rail cars. Powered by four Scotch marine boilers.
Sold to City of Frankfort in 1983 for use as a marine museum. Presently docked in Manistee, MI and open to the public.
2006. This marks the 75th anniversary of the S.S. City of Milwaukee. Now moored at Manistee, the preservation group is planning several special events during the year. The aft pilot house is currently being restored with a new floor and rebuilt windows. The car ferry, built for the GTW on the Muskegon-Milwaukee run, also sailed for the Ann Arbor railroad in later years. [MRF-2006-06]
