Time Line

1857. March. At the Garden City Mine a small force is employed this winter on the "ash bed," in which there is no apparent change. [DFP-1857-0319]

1857. October. The new drilling and crushing machinery at the Garden City mine it is said is quite equal to the expectations of its projector, and seems destined to produce an improvement on the past, worthy the title of "New Era".

1859. Described as "a most excellent stamping mill" with 32 head of stamps. This mine is owned in Chicago. There is one shaft sunk on this location tot he depth of 132 feet and a second shadft has been contracted to an equal depth for ten dollars a foot. [DFP-1859-1011].

1861. A new north and south vein was recently discovered at the Garden City mine which promises to yield well in mineral. [DFP-1861-0323]

1861. October. Some minor buildings at the Garden City mine, including the tram road shed, were set on fire by a storm. [DFP-1861-1006]

1865. The Ironsides brought down three barrels of copper from the Garden City mine (to Detroit), plus a large load of copper and pig iron for Cleveland, and a good number of passengers. She will leave again for Lake Superior on Wednesday next from Brady's dock. [DFP-1865-1021]
