Location: S 1/2-NW (Brier Hill); S 1/2-NE, NE-NE, N 1/2-SE Sec. 9 plus fraction north of lake in SE-SE and a small parcel at center of Sec. 9; all of Sec. 10 exclusive of area covered by Hanbury Lake; and SW and s 1/2-SE Sec. 11 of T39N-R29W; also E 1/2-SE Sec. 6 and S 1/2 Sec. 5 of T39N-R29W (which includes Norway; N 1/2-SE Sec. 5 and Cyclops; S 1/2-SE Sec. 5. Curry, West Vulcan and East Volcan mines are parts of Penn Mines.

Owned by: Menonimee Mining co. prior to 1882. Later by Penn Iron Mining Co. under control of Cambria Steel Co. (M.A. Hanna Co. agent). Since 1923 operated by Penn Iron Mining Co. (Pickands Mather & Co. agent) for Bethlehem Steel Co. Lease surrendered 1945.

Produced: Iron Ore, soft, gray-red, non-bessemer.

Method: Underground. See list. Worked by top-slicing and sub-level slicing and rooms with square sets and filling. East Vulcan mine. 1,281 feet to 12th level. Curry and West Vulcan shaft - 2,091 deep.

Railroad connection: C&NW to port of Escanaba.

Until: 1945

Lifetime Production: 21,644,135 tons between 1887-1945
