Owned by: Oliver Mining Co, in 1908, then Republic Iron & Steel as part of Cambria Mine. Now a part of the Cambria-Jackson mine which is operated by the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Co. since 1943.

Produced: Iron Ore, hard, brown no-Bessemer.

Method: Underground.

Lifetime Production: 1,950,422 tons from 1889-1910 (included in Cambria-Jackson mine).

1911. May 5. Hartford-Cambria #2, Negaunee, Marquette Co. - Fire in mine - 7 fatalities

1911. May 6. Richard Yelland Sr. lost his life in the Hartford mine fire yesterday and his 18 year old son William died with him. Mr. Yelland was the father of 21 children, three of whom died some time before he did. The mother and seventeen children survive. Richard Yelland Jr., the oldest son, a member of the Negaunee police force, was on the night shift. He came to the mine and went underground to search for his father and brother but he had to return to the surface without finding them. He would have stayed longer but couldn't stand the gas. He had worked at the mine in the past and was acquainted with the mine. [CN-1911-0506]
